Living with Anxiety and Depression

FREE and RECORDED. Times shown are Pacific Time.

Anxiety and depression are often misunderstood, especially among older adults, where symptoms may be minimized as “just part of aging” or confused with everyday stress. In this candid and compassionate conversation, gerontologist Sally Duplantier and clinical psychologist Dr. Mark Moore will explore how to distinguish between normal life stress, clinical anxiety, and clinical depression. Together, they will shed light on the emotional experiences that many quietly endure, offering clarity on when these feelings may signal something more serious and when to seek help.

Dr. Moore will also offer guidance on how to support loved ones living with anxiety or depression—emphasizing understanding, presence, and the power of simply listening. Whether you live with these challenges yourself or want to better support someone who does, this conversation aims to reduce stigma, foster empathy, and promote mental well-being at every stage of life.

Mark Moore, PhD, is a clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst in private practice in Philadelphia. He served as Director of Psychological Services at the Abramson Cancer Center at Pennsylvania Hospital from 2004–2014 and led the Psychotherapy Training Program at the Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia from 2014–2020, where he now serves as Curriculum and Education Division Chair. A recipient of the 2020 Edith Sabshin Teaching Award from the American Psychoanalytic Association, Dr. Moore’s clinical focus includes self-understanding, emotional well-being, and the psychological impact of chronic illness and life transitions.
