Young people may seem to have an advantage. After all, the common belief is that younger people are healthier and happier, while older adults are thought to be more forgetful, less energetic, and on a slightly downhill trajectory. Our society focuses on youth and often disparages old age, but these stereotypes are often wrong. When it comes to emotional well-being, older adults reign supreme.
Wellness Wednesday on October 27th
In our October 27th Wellness Wednesday (11 am PT), Dr. Susan Turk Charles will explore the research behind the “positivity effect” and why older adults, for the most part, experience greater control of their emotions and more satisfaction with life. Dr. Charles is a clinical psychologist and professor of Psychological Science and Nursing Science at UC California. She is the co-author of a ground-breaking paper on social and emotional well-being across adulthood, and has devoted 20+ years to this work.
In our webinar, Why Emotions Get Better with Age, you will learn about the role that social connection plays in the way our brains process information and how the quality of these connections influence longevity. The program will also explore the role that COVID-19 has played in the emotional well-being of older adults and will share strategies for what to do if you’re not feeling particularly positive.
This webinar is free but you need to register to attend (or receive the recording).
