If Your Skeleton Could Talk...

If your skeleton could talk, it might say, "Please stop sitting so much...and lift something heavy once in a while."

As funny as that sounds, it's backed by science. Exercise is one of the most effective ways to  maintain healthy bones.

In 2025, I helped form the Bone Health Working Group within the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM). Together with physicians, physical therapists, nurse practitioners, and health coaches, we've created a series of practical, evidence-based patient handouts.

I'm delighted to share our second patient-facing handout, which focuses on exercise and bone health. It explains which types of exercise actually strengthen bone, how much exercise is needed, why balance training matters, and simple ways to build stronger bones while reducing your risk of falls.

Whether you're looking after your own bones or supporting someone you love, I hope you'll find it helpful.
