Knute Rockne, Norte Dame’s historic football coach, said, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” To paraphrase that for these shelter-at-home-days:
When the going gets tough, the tough get moving
While at-home confinement could make us more sedentary, it doesn’t have to. If you’ve commuted in the past, take advantage of this new-found time to get in additional exercise, whether it’s a walk outside or one of the many options available from your computer.
So Many Choices … Where to Start?
Below is a short list of options that I have either tried personally or which have been recommended by Zing community members. My favorite are the live streaming options because these help add structure to my day. They require me to put an event on my calendar and show up at a specific time. They also provide interaction with live human beings – I see faces, smiles, and often kids and pets! There is an added benefit to take classes with people we already know, so check your local exercise studio to see if they have similar options.

Get Creative – Start Your Own!
One of the best classes I took this past week was Zumba taught by Zing community member Lauren. She taught it from her garage via Zoom. While her moves and music were great, the best part was engaging with people I know and laughing together through a few technology hiccups. Lauren has discovered the best way keep herself moving is to help others do it as well.
Top Takeaway
Find a regular timeslot for some type of activity every day and honor it as if it was a required meeting. Beyond your own exercise needs, think how you might help family or friends get moving too.
